A commemorative poster made during a 2 month artist-in-residency at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD), on the occasion of Santiago Piedrafita’s (at the time chair of the 2D department) move to a new job at North Carolina State University.

The elements used were inspired landmarks from the city of Minneapolis (known for it’s 10.000 Lakes and freezing Mid West cold during winter time) like old White Castle hamburgers restaurant, weird signs, and the life of Santiago and his wife Deborah Littlejohn.

A lot of material was found in the collections of my friend, graphic designer, and MCAD faculty miss Kindra Murphy, who has a meticulous nose for yummy graphic ephemera.

The prints were customised by MCAD collegues (which made it sooo much better)…

… and random cuts from colour separations proved useful as background projections.

And remember: “Minnesota is nice, but whatever you do… don’t die there.” (Santiago Piedrafita)
