For this show, I worked with material from the old Smith-Lesoëf library,
part of the French Fondation National des Arts Plastiques et Graphiques.
I was particularly interested in these bound volumes of Magasin Pittoresque,
one of the very first illustrated magazines in Europe (1835 - 1865).
a beautiful techniaue that required tremendous skills. (Image by 'Freeman' after James Audubon)
I was curious what would happen if I mixed the historical woodengravings with my own library
of contemporary vernacular images, using separations from existing work in a different way.
A selection of historic and modern images were enlarged and printed on film...
... in order to be printed on A0 sized paper, using only black and opaque white.

From a total of around 250 unique combinations, the best 25 were selected at the gallery.
