We invited 6 graphic designers and/or illustrators to participate and submit a design that was printed at AGA and presented at the annual alternative artfair KunstVlaai.

When I received the KunstVlaai’s official invitation (design Katja van Stiphout), and saw it’s mirrored typography, I knew what to do.

A vlaai is usually cut in slices, that any trained reader should be able to recognise as the letter ‘A’, right? There were 6 people in our workshop, so…

From Tirion Nieuwe Insectengids, 1997.

During spring and summer, wasps can be a real pest here. First they’ll get to your food, and then they’ll get to you!

Three layers: opaque white + fluo pink, fluo pink and black.

Some more information for background trivia lovers:
Vlaai = a popular type of pastry from Limburg, the southernmost province of Holland. You don’t have to go all the way there to eat it though. HEMA departmentstores all over this country sell a decent one too.

The name KunstVlaai is referring and making fun of KunstRai, the former artfair where ‘established’ and often poshy and/or conservative galleries present themselves. Today it’s called Art Amsterdam.
