A poster for The Recordshow, a bimonthly event in Minneapolis, MN, serving record geeks from all around the Twin Cities. The crowd there seemed rather alien to me, which is what set the line of thoughts below in motion…

In the heart of the Mid West: MayDay Parade, the annual hippy-ish spring event celebrating the earth’s cycles on the streets of Minneapolis (the capital of Minnesota).

Idyllic rural scenes, and the spatious utilitarian architecture of a typical Midwestern red barn. (spread from Dwell magazine)

Original movieposters for various editions.

Poster right: Devils Tower NM, Wyoming, a place I visited earlier that year.

In Steven Spielberg’s movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), the top of this volcanic rock is chosen by an alien spaceship to meet humans and have abducted individuals return to earth. The aliens communicate through music…

An incomplete 19th century typeface from Rob Roy Kelly, American Wood Type, 1828 – 1900, completed by making papercuts.

With a little imagination, and in the right frame of mind, some of the mysterious crop circles could be seen as records…

Anyway, THIS cicle is round!

Alain Grée, Electriciteit, Casterman 1969.

Ah yes, the power transmission lines are borrowed from Alian Grée, who probably photographed them in the French countryside.

Made during a two month artist-in-residency at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) in 2006.
